put a stop to the unwanted movement of your doors

5 Signs That You Should Change Your Home Locks

Although you might not think much about the locks that keep your home safe, there are some situations in which they just aren't as secure as they used to be. If one of these five situations applies to you, now is the time to look into locksmith services.

1. You've Just Moved In

If you have just moved into a new home, you will probably feel a lot more secure if you change your locks. Even if the real estate agent or property manager claims that the locks were recently changed, you never know who might have had their hands on them since then, such as a cleaning crew or someone from the real estate office. Locks don't cost much and will provide you with peace of mind that no one else has a way of getting into your home.

2. You've Kicked Someone Out

If you had a tenant who lived in your home or who no longer lives there, or if a disgruntled family member has moved out of your home because you asked them to, you have to protect yourself. It can be shocking what people will do to retaliate; plus, you don't know who has access to their keys.

3. You've Fired Someone Who Was Working in Your Home

Occasionally, there comes a time when you have to let your babysitter, nanny, cleaning professional or other household worker go. In these situations, you don't want to end up becoming the victim of a theft or other crime, so if the person had a key to get into your home, you'll need to change your locks.

4. Your Locks Don't Lock and Unlock Easily

You might think that as long as a lock locks and unlocks, it doesn't matter if it takes a little bit of a struggle for you to get it to do so. A lock that doesn't lock and unlock easily might be easier to break into, however, so it could be putting your home at risk.

5. You Lost Your Keys

If you have ever lost your keys, you know how much of a pain it can be. While you're having extra keys made, go ahead and have keys made for the new locks that you'll be installing. This will help keep your home secure in case the wrong person finds the keys to your home.

In some situations, it is better to be safe than sorry. If you have found yourself in one of these five situations, now is the time to call a good locksmith like A-Dave's Lock & Safe to come out and replace your locks. If you do, you can gain both peace of mind and added security for your home.
